The CD hasn't arrived yet. To my dismay Johan has re-done the mix because it "Mungs", sucks or whatever. We'll see when I hear it. My vacation starts today. I Finally I can relax, sleep during daytime and put down some trax during the night. OK kids, Don't shoot wine...;-)

Johan: Umm, the more I listened to the mix of Bleak House, the more it sucked... tore it up a bit yesterday and built it again, this time it sounds a lot better. Removed some patterns to open up the sound a bit, which helped a lot. Getting there...

Johan: "Mung" is phonetic language for what the lower midrange sounds like... ;-)

Johan: Well, the CD has been sent! Big disclaimer, Mr. A: this version still needs a wee bit of work in my opinion, but at least you get the idea of what it sounds like. Tell me if you like it at all and what you want to change!

Ahhh Yes! Mid-range management is often troublesome. Are there a more annoying frequency than 200 hz? I think not! If I ever have a range of booming mid-range frequencies lined up against a wall and a gun in my hand I won't hesitate to pull the trigger... I think we might be headed into a phaze were much of the work lands on Johan. But I guess its alrite... New melodies appears almost every day now, and J. seems more keen on tweaking and producing than I am at the moment. Can't wait to hear "Bleak House" in full 16 bit glory:-)

Johan: Got my CD burner software sorted, burned Bleak House and had a few test listenings. Discovered that my headphones are lying to me; it sounded pretty good in them, but when I ran the stuff in the home and car stereo I had a lower midrange "mung" in the main vocals. As always, some levels need to be adjusted and a couple of the drum sounds need equalizing. Nothing serious, though, just a bit of tweaking required. I will send the CD to Mr. A anyway, I know he is dying to hear it... ;-)

Johan: Managed to finish Bleak House this weekend! Well, barring that the test listenings in my home and car stereo sound good once I get it on CD (of course, my CD burning software started acting up on me). Spent a lot of time recording drum tracks (I really need a proper kit!!!) and trying to find a good acoustic kick drum sound. I just couldn't for my life find a suitable one in my quite extensive collection; then I selected a distorted electronic one by mistake as I was browsing. Oddly enough, it fit perfectly! That's the way it goes sometimes...
